The Human Rights Committee of SOMA Action is committed to advocating for the rights of all people, especially those who are most vulnerable under the Trump administration. This includes (but is not limited to) fighting for racial justice, women's rights, criminal justice reform, LGBTQ rights, and disability rights and fighting Islamophobia and anti-Semitism.
Members of the Human Rights Committee of SOMa Action are activists and allies concerned about the rights of multiple groups of people listed below. We understand that there may be quite a bit of overlap between the Human Rights Committee and the Immigration Committee. We are concerned about the rights of immigrants and refugees and expect that we will work with the SOMa Action Immigration Committee closely.
We believe that we can be most effective by partnering with existing groups who are currently working in these human rights areas. We commit to serve as allies to any who are threatened, and to stand with those who are victims of injustice.
The goals of the human rights committee are to build bridges with effective local organizations working on the following and to offer support and action as needed. Our committee should reflect the diversity of our community and our diverse interests and issues:
SUBCOMMITTEES (AS OF TODAY):
- Women’s rights
- LGBTQ rights
- Muslim rights (and Islamophobia)
- Disability rights
- Criminal Justice Reform
