Vanquish the Villains celebrates a phenomenal first month
Momentum builds as more volunteers pick teams and get to work.
The enthusiasm, effort and energy for our Vanquish the Villains campaign to flip 3 Senate seats continues to surge! Nearly 250 volunteers have joined a team, with new sign-ups continuing to come in.
What’s the draw? Well, besides helping to save our country, it turns out that getting involved is easier than most people might imagine. Just ask SOMA resident Allison Posner who is working to Vanquish the Villainous Republican Senator Thom Tillis in North Carolina:
“I was unsure of how much of a difference I could make while working and homeschooling during a pandemic, but thankfully, SOMA Action makes it easy to sign up for activities that I can do on my own time.”
The impact of all this volunteer involvement is adding up. Though the campaign launched on August 9th – barely a month ago – as of September 8th the teams have racked up some impressive numbers, including:
1,774 Letters & Postcards sent
2,045 Phone Calls made
27,710 Texts sent
That’s more than 31,000 voter touchpoints!!!
Some people may look at these numbers and say, “Phew, I’m glad they’re doing all that work, I guess the rest of us can relax.” WRONG! The truth is, we’ve got 8 weeks left to get this done and we need even more people working with us to Vanquish the Villains! As a bonus, you’ll get to work with like-minded neighbors who share your desire to work for a better nation.
John Cramer, Co-Captain of the Arizona Astronauts (working for Democrat Mark Kelly to vanquish Martha McSally) talks about the importance of community as a motivator for the Vanquish volunteers:
“What I’m hearing from everybody is excitement about the community we’re creating and how good it feels to connect with others and do something about the direction our country is headed. That feels really important for the health of our democracy going forward.”
Vanquish the Villains organizers have been blown away by the response to this effort, as well as by the unrelenting energy of our volunteers. As Amy Higer, Co-Captain of Yes We Cal (working for Democrat Cal Cunningham to vanquish Thom Tillis in North Carolina) says,
“We began with three simple questions: Can we organize a long-distance campaign to help flip Senate seats? Can we channel the frustrations, outrage, and energy of our super-motivated progressive community in a way that would be sustainable until the November election? And can we have some fun doing so? We are so thrilled and heartened to be able to answer YES to all three questions!”
Speaking of questions, here’s one for you:
Do you have one hour per week to devote to the most consequential election in decades?
If so, you’ve got what it takes to help make a difference! These elections may be won by small margins, and everyone’s involvement has an impact. You can learn more, and join the effort here.
