SOMA Action Members Overwhelmingly Endorse McGehee for District 28

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - After hosting a rigorous candidates' forum for District 28, SOMA Action members have cast their votes and decisively endorsed Frank McGehee by a nearly 9 to 1 margin.

The vote reflects a commitment to backing a Democratic primary candidate who champions election reform, democratic values, and progressive principles.

"Frank's dedication to upholding democratic values is a stark contrast to the undemocratic 'Line'," said Jessica James, President of SOMA Action. "This endorsement is an essential step in our ongoing fight for progressive change and reaffirms our commitment to fostering a truly multi-cultural democracy in the United States."

“We admire Frank’s courage to buck the anti-democratic county line ballot system,” said Jessica James, President of SOMA Action. "This primary race endorsement is an essential step in our ongoing fight for progressive change and underscores our commitment to fostering a truly fair, multi-cultural democracy in Essex County, New Jersey, and across the United States."

This endorsement is the latest action in a series of substantial election undertakings made by SOMA Action. Recent initiatives include:

·      Spearheading postcard writing parties and phone-banking for the Wisconsin Supreme Court race, which saw the election of a Democrat in April, ensuring a Democratic majority.

·      Deploying on-the-ground canvassers to Georgia in December to support Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock's successful campaign during the U.S. Senate runoff.

·      Hosting a fundraiser for Georgia Fair Fight, contributing to keeping Georgia blue in the Senate.

·      Organizing educational webinars, including one about the Georgia runoff race with Atlanta-area Congresswoman Carolyn Bourdeaux.

·      Mobilizing phone banking teams for critical 2022 elections across Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.

·      Leading congressional canvassing efforts in New Jersey for Mikie Sherrill, Andy Kim, and Tom Malinowski and similar efforts in Pennsylvania for Susan Wild for Congress, John Fetterman for Senate, and Josh Shapiro for Governor.

"Our focus isn't limited to our own backyard," James noted. "Whether we're working in the Deep South, the upper Midwest, across the river, or right here in South Orange and Maplewood, our guiding light is fighting for progressive change. With 2024 promising to present even tougher races and steeper challenges, we need our community's support. Our message is simple: Democracy is on the line. We need you to join us now so we can be fully organized for whatever the right wing throws our way in 2024. There's so much at stake."
